At Friends of Refugees, we are supporting the Afghan community in and around Clarkston and are preparing for newly arriving refugees from Afghanistan and many other countries. Every donation to Friends of Refugees helps to provide opportunities for refugees in our community–those from Afghanistan and every other country.

We walk alongside the following organizations every day, and we are highlighting the work they are doing as some of the first responders for Afghan refugees arriving in the United States:

Georgia’s four refugee resettlement agencies are the first point of contact for all newly arriving refugees. They pick up families at the airport and bring them to their new home, enroll children in school, provide employment services, and so much more. All agencies are seeking donations, volunteers, employer partners, faith partners, and advocates.

Refugee Women’s Network, Inc., is currently organizing fundraising events and collection drives to assist newly arriving families and provide additional support to the Afghan community during this time.

The Welcome Co-op locates and prepares suitable housing for newly arriving families, working in partnership with the four resettlement agencies. They need donations of furniture in good condition and volunteers to help set up apartments.
