What is the Women’s Initiative?
The Women’s Initiative is a movement of women welcoming refugees into our city with generosity of friendship, time and resources.
We do this by developing and resourcing collaborative endeavors with Friends of Refugees to support the integration of refugees into the Atlanta community and by acting as ambassadors who raise awareness of the beautiful and diverse heritages refugees bring that enrich our city.
We provide opportunities for Engagement, Education and Multiplied Impact with the hope of Mutual Transformation in our city and ourselves.
If you are interested in in learning more about becoming a member of the Women’s Initiative, please email Liz Johnson at Liz@friendsofrefugees.com
Fall 2018/Spring 2019 Endeavor
Friends of Refugees is starting a Youth Academy, and the Women’s Initiative is helping! The Youth Academy will be a place where local refugee youth (6-12th grade) gain education, employment experience, life skills and social networks to launch them into a flourishing life as adults in the United States.
The Women’s Initiative is building mentoring relationships, providing enrichment opportunities and sharing our resources to launch and sustain the Youth Academy in its first year. In return, we will learn from these 35 youth as they share their skills, cultures and friendship with us.
